Frequently Asked Questions

  • As the area population grows, so does its energy needs. Our forecasts predict that North Carolina's demand for energy will increase over the next decade. The transmission system in North Carolina is an open access system, meaning the transmission system serves all utilities in the state and their customers. The rebuilt transmission line and substations will strengthen reliability to meet the growing demand and will enhance the ability of Duke Energy and neighboring utilities to provide safe and reliable energy to homes, community facilities, and businesses in Transylvania County.

  • The transmission line will follow approximately the same path as the existing line. In some cases, additional easements will be needed directly adjacent to the existing corridor. In other locations, new easements will be needed separate from the existing corridor within 100 feet.

  • Construction activities are expected to begin in 2023 and to be completed in approximately 2025. This timeline is subject to change based on permits, project changes, weather conditions, and other uncontrollable events.
