Reliability is a responsibility that Duke Energy takes very seriously. As part of our commitment toward building a smarter energy future, we will be replacing and upgrading a portion of 345-kilovolt (kV) transmission line over the Ohio River from the Miami Fort Substation in Hamilton County, Ohio, to the Tanners Creek Substation in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
This project will provide greater energy capacity and enhanced service reliability for these growing communities.
The 2021 work will replace approximately 4 miles of 345-kV transmission line that crosses the Ohio River between Hamilton County, Ohio and Dearborn County, Indiana. This includes 0.31 miles (approximately 1,637 feet) of transmission line replacement in Hamilton County, Ohio, which requires approval from the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB). The rebuilt transmission line and modernized equipment will provide added capacity to accommodate the area's growing energy needs. Duke Energy will be using a helicopter for this construction, which will improve safety and save time and cost on constructing this reliability project.
Duke Energy is proposing construction of this portion of the project to begin in March 2021 and to be completed in June 2021. An application to construct, operate and maintain this electric transmission line project is now pending before the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) in Columbus, Ohio.
View the copy of the application here. A paper copy will be provided upon request. To obtain a paper copy, please contact 888.827.5116.
The work also will include modifications on an existing tower.
Related construction in fall 2020 included the replacement of transmission towers with modern equipment to accommodate the transmission line improvements.
