Executive Vice President, Chief Executive Officer – Duke Energy Florida and Midwest
and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer
Louis Renjel is the executive vice president and chief executive officer of Duke Energy Florida and Midwest, as well as the chief corporate affairs officer for Duke Energy. In these roles, he oversees the company’s electric and natural gas utilities serving approximately 4 million customers in Florida, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. Additionally, he leads corporate communications, federal government affairs, strategic policy, sustainability, stakeholder engagement and the Duke Energy Foundation.
Renjel has led the external affairs and communications functions since 2021 and was named chief executive officer of Duke Energy Florida and Midwest in 2025. Prior to this, he served as senior vice president of federal government and corporate affairs for Duke Energy, and also served as vice president of federal government affairs and strategic policy.
Renjel joined Duke Energy in March 2017 after serving as vice president of strategic infrastructure at CSX Corp., a Jacksonville, Fla.-based transportation company. At CSX, he aligned the company’s strategy with government advocacy; structured and executed public-private partnerships; secured government approvals for large-scale critical infrastructure projects; and led environmental and energy policy initiatives. His leadership at CSX also included a role as director of environmental and government affairs.
Before joining CSX, Renjel was the director of government relations for Cummins Inc., where he managed energy, environmental, transportation and corporate matters before Congress and the executive branch. His extensive experience in government relations includes serving on the staff of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Renjel’s public sector experience includes serving as deputy staff director for the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. Additionally, he served as legislative assistant to U.S. Sen. James M. Inhofe of Oklahoma and as a staff member on the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce.
Renjel currently serves on the boards of the Nuclear Energy Institute and Randolph-Macon College. He earned a Master of Business Administration from Duke University, a Master of Science in environmental sciences from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Arts in environmental studies from Randolph-Macon College.
Renjel and his wife, Nan, have a son and a daughter.
