What is Improve & Save?

It’s a unique offering that lets customers pay for energy efficiency upgrades in their home or rental, over time, and as part of their energy bill. Duke Energy applies generous money-saving incentives toward the cost of the upgrades and installation. We then calculate how much you can pay over time on your bill. A co-payment may be required to ensure the monthly payments are not greater than the estimated monthly energy savings. The installation and ongoing maintenance of qualifying equipment is completed by Duke Energy for the life of the term. The remaining balance is repaid over 10 years on the property’s electric bill. No loans, no credit checks.

How it works

Duke Energy will begin with a free energy audit by sending a trained energy advisor to your door who’ll look for the largest energy savings opportunities in your home and suggest targeted upgrades tailored to you.

  • Fill out eligibility form‌

    This program is available to individually metered residential customers (homeowners or renters) with a current account who are not on an active installment payment plan.

  • Schedule a free energy audit

    The initial assessment will be conducted by a third-party energy advisor. They will identify areas of your home that may benefit from energy efficiency upgrades.

  • Review improvement plan

    Your energy advisor will make tailored recommendations that include your money saving incentive, the potential energy savings, and any upfront payment amounts.

  • Make upgrades and start saving

    A trusted Duke Energy trade ally will install the measures and perform a quality assurance check. After all upgrades are complete, a monthly service charge will be included in your electric bill.

After your home energy audit, our energy advisor will review energy recommendations best suited for your home. These generous incentives help maximize savings potential.

  • HVAC & Duct Sealing

    Save up to $4,627

  • Mini Split & Duct Sealing

    Save up to $5,613

  • Attic Insulation & Air Sealing

    Save up to $1,050

  • Heat Pump Water Heater

    Save up to $1,200

Actual incentive level will be determined after the home energy audit modeling. Attic insulation & air sealing may be added to HVAC or mini split upgrade.
