Payment Plus

The Payment Plus program is coordinated by the Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission, and provides qualifying customers the opportunity to earn up to a $500 reduction on their utility bill. By participating, customers will learn how to control their energy bills, receive money-saving tips for balancing their budget and can have their home weatherized all for free!

To qualify

  • Must be a Duke Energy Electric Kentucky customer with an active account for the last 12 months
  • Must be at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines
  • Must have a past due balance at the time of enrollment into the program
  • Must not have participated in the Payment Plus program in the past

To receive the $500 credit, customers must register and complete the following steps:

Attend and complete an energy education, money-saving and bill-payment tips class

In this one class, customers will learn the basics of how to save energy in their home, while learning ways to save money and tips for balancing their budget. Once completed, the customers will receive $350 credit on their Duke Energy account (credit takes up to two billing cycles).

Have a Duke Energy-approved provider (PWC) weatherize their home

The work will be scheduled and completed by People Working Cooperatively (PWC) at no cost to the customer. Upon completion, PWC will notify Duke Energy, and another $150 credit will be applied to their account. The addition of insulation, duct sealing, weatherstripping, caulking and other energy efficiency measures will make their home more comfortable and will cost less to heat and cool. Once weatherization measures are completed, the $150 credit can take up to two billing cycles.

Duke Energy will review qualifying criteria and NKCAC will send communications to eligible customers throughout the year.
