Home Energy House Call Energy Efficiency Kit Installation Guide

Showerhead

Reason to install: The energy-efficient showerhead saves water and the energy required to heat the water while retaining consistent water pressure.

  1. Remove the old showerhead from the shower arm. You may need to use two wrenches. Place a piece of cloth between the first wrench and the shower arm and the other piece of cloth between the second wrench and the showerhead as you loosen.
  2. Turn on the water and wash out the pipe, and then turn off the water.
  3. Apply Teflon tape to the shower arm threads, and screw on the new showerhead.
  4. Test the showerhead. If the showerhead leaks, tighten by using wrenches. Do not over tighten.

Note: To clean, unscrew the nozzle and remove foreign particles. Soak the nozzle in hydrogen peroxide or vinegar.

Kitchen faucet aerator

Reason to install: The kitchen faucet aerator saves water and energy and provides swivel and water flow control.

  1. Remove the old aerator from the faucet. You may need to use a wrench and a piece of cloth to protect the finish of your faucet.
  2. Turn on the water to wash out the faucet, and then turn off the water.
  3. Screw on the new aerator and hand tighten. Use one rubber washer for faucets with external threads; otherwise use two rubber washers for faucets with internal threads.
  4. Turn on the water. If the aerator leaks, tighten with a wrench until snug. Do not over tighten.

Note: A slight stream of water will flow from your aerator when the flip valve is in the off position. This is normal and part of our anti-scalding feature.

Bathroom faucet aerator

Reason to install: The bubble spray bathroom faucet aerator maintains great water pressure while conserving water and energy.

  1. Remove the old aerator.
  2. For inside threaded faucets, place two rubber washers in the top of the aerator.
  3. Screw the aerator into the inside threads of the faucet.

Note: For outside threaded faucets, place one rubber washer in the top of the aerator and screw the aerator onto the outside threads.

Weatherstripping

Reason to install: The adhesive-backed closed cell foam weatherstripping seals out drafts in doors and windows.

  1. On door frames with no weatherstripping – but noticeable air space – clean the door frame surface and allow it to dry completely.
  2. Cut the foam weatherstripping tape to the desired length and press in place with fingertips.
  3. Apply to the door frame with creased side facing door on all sides. Make sure that the tape is compressed by the closed door.

Hot Water Pipe Wrap

Reason to install: Helps reduce water and energy use by preventing heat loss while hot water travels through your pipes.

  1. Locate the hot water pipe for your water heater. It extends out of the top or side of your water heater. CAUTION: The hot water pipe will be very warm to the touch.
  2. Make sure the pipe is both clean and dry.
  3. Measure exposed pipe and cut tube wrap to the same length as your exposed pipe.
  4. Carefully place the black tube wrap around the exposed length of the pipe.
