Authorized Person
An Authorized Person is any individual who has been placed on the account as an authorized user by the primary customer of record. The Authorized Person is given authority by the Customer of Record to act on their behalf.

An Authorized Person will have access to limited account transactions, and request a variety of actions, including:
An Authorized Person is not able to complete other account transactions, including the following actions:
Important information for accounts with an Authorized Person:
- The Customer of Record must have their Social Security number or other Personally Identifying Information on file to add an Authorized Person
- The Authorized Person will be asked to verify the Customer of Record’s Social Security number or other Personally Identifying Information each time they contact Duke Energy
- The account remains the sole responsibility of the Customer of Record
- Spouses are not automatically considered to be Authorized Persons
- The Customer of Record can notify Duke Energy at any time to remove an Authorized Person from their account
An Authorized Person will have access to limited account transactions, and request a variety of actions, including:
- Receive Account Balance and Due Date
- Verify Payment
- Establish Due Date Extension
- Issue Stop Service Order in Limited Situations
- Issue Trouble/Outage Requests
- Issue a Home Energy Check
- Enroll in Residential Solutions
An Authorized Person is not able to complete other account transactions, including the following actions:
- Connect or transfer electric service
- Add another Authorized Person to the account
- Add the Customer of Record’s Social Security number or other Personally Identifying Information
