  • You will receive a confirmation email within two business days letting you know you are enrolled in Duke Energy’s Prepaid Advantage program. The email will also contain information explaining how to pay the minimum of $40, which is required to start your Duke Energy Prepaid Advantage plan. This $40 initial payment will be applied to the actual future usage.

  • If there is a deposit on your existing account, this will be applied to the final bill of your current account and any credit or balance will be moved to your new Duke Energy Prepaid Advantage account.

If there is a deposit on your existing account, this will be applied to the final bill of your current account, and any credit or balance will be moved to your new Pay-As-You-Go account.

  • Any amount owed after deposits are applied will be moved to your new Duke Energy Prepaid Advantage account and will be referred to as a "deferred balance". After your initial payment, any subsequent payments will be applied as 75% toward future electric usage and 25% to your deferred balance until the amount is paid in full. If you owe more than $500, you will be required to make a payment that brings your balance under $500 before beginning the Duke Energy Prepaid Advantage Program.

  • Your payments will automatically be split, but you can pay the total amount owed if you choose. If you choose to pay more than 25 percent toward your deferred balance, simply log in and select “Balance” and transfer the money from pre-pay to the deferred balance.

  • COVID-19 Update: We know many customers may be facing unusual financial hardships as a result of COVID-19. That’s why we’re suspending disconnections for nonpayment effective March 13, 2020. For more information about Duke Energy’s COVID-19 response, please visit dukeenergyupdates.com.

Your account is subject to disconnection anytime it has a zero balance. Disconnection will occur on the business day after the account reaches a zero balance – no earlier than 10 a.m. and typically no later than 2 p.m. Kilowatt-hours used after the account reaches zero but before disconnection will result in a negative account balance. Service will be reconnected remotely when any negative balance is satisfied and a sufficient payment creates a credit balance. If the account remains disconnected after 15 business days without payment, the account will be final-billed and you will be required to contact Duke Energy to reestablish service with a new account, which may require a credit check and security deposit.
  • You can leave the pilot program at any time. If you decide to leave the pilot program and a deposit is required on your account this needs to be satisfied before the account is established. A deposit cannot be billed.

However, this pilot is scheduled to last up to 12 months with the opportunity to continue participation if the pilot proves to be successful. If you decide to leave the pilot and a deposit is required on your account, a deposit will be billed to your account.
