You have the power to help.

HeatShare was established in 1986 to assist Ohio residents in need with winter heating bills and is funded by our customers, employees and shareholders. Duke Energy contributes $100,000 and will match dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000 in customer contributions.

How to apply for assistance

HeatShare is administered by The Salvation Army. Eligibility is based upon need and doesn’t necessarily follow government assistance guidelines. The HeatShare hotline, 513.762.8622, will be staffed beginning January 21, 2020 (Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.).

The HeatShare Fund may provide up to $400 to Duke Energy Ohio customers to help avoid disconnection. Funds may be used for heating or cooling bills through July 31 or until funds are depleted.

Customers who call the hotline will leave a message and their call will be returned as soon as possible, usually the same day. They will then be screened to ensure they meet these guidelines for assistance:

  • A resident of Adams, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton, Highland or Warren Counties in southwest Ohio
  • Must have Duke Energy Ohio for their heat provider
  • Cannot be on the PIPP Plus program, unless funds are still available after March 31
  • Must be the customer of record at Duke Energy Ohio
  • Must have a disconnection notice from Duke Energy Ohio

Eligible customers will be given an appointment to meet with a case worker where their account and circumstances will be evaluated. The Salvation Army case worker will work with the customer and Duke Energy to ensure they are placed on an appropriate payment plan, if applicable.

How to make a donation

If you would like to share the warmth with those less fortunate in your community, your contribution can be made in two ways:
  • You may add a donation to your monthly Duke Energy bill. (Most monthly bills have a special notation in the upper right-hand corner to mark your HeatShare donation.)
  1. Write in the dollar amount you would like to give (in even dollar amounts).
  2. Add the amount to your bill payment.
  • You also may mail donations by check or money order only. Checks should be made payable to The Salvation Army-HeatShare Program.
