You have the power to help.

HeatShare was established in 1986 to assist Ohio residents in need with winter heating bills and is funded by our customers, employees and shareholders. Duke Energy contributes $100,000 and will match dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000 in customer contributions.

How to apply for assistance

HeatShare is administered by The Salvation Army. Eligibility is based upon need and doesn’t necessarily follow government assistance guidelines. HeatShare funds may be used for heating or cooling bills through July 31, if funds are available.

The HeatShare hotline, 513.762.5636, will be staffed beginning January 21, 2020. Customers calling the hotline will be screened to ensure they meet the guidelines to apply for one-time assistance of up to $400. Eligible customers will be given an appointment to meet with a case worker at which time their account and circumstances will be evaluated.

HeatShare Qualification Guidelines:
  • Resident of Adams, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton, Highland or Warren Counties in southwest Ohio
  • Must be Duke Energy Ohio customer of record
  • Must have a disconnection notice from Duke Energy Ohio
  • Must have Duke Energy Ohio as heat provider
  • Cannot be on the PIPP Plus program, unless HeatShare funds are still available after March 31
  • Did not receive HeatShare assistance in 2019

How to make a donation

If you would like to share the warmth with those less fortunate in your community, your contribution can be made in two ways:

  • You may add a donation to your monthly Duke Energy bill. (Most monthly bills have a special notation in the upper right-hand corner to mark your HeatShare donation.)
  1. Write in the dollar amount you would like to give (in even dollar amounts).
  2. Add the amount to your bill payment.
  • You also may mail donations by check or money order only. Checks should be made payable to The Salvation Army-HeatShare Program.

Please mail donations to:
