Boat ramp closures in effect due to drought conditions and maintenance.

Water Access Alerts 

Lake James:
  • Bridgewater Canoe Portage Access Area Access Area: closed beginning September 26 for maintenance. Work is scheduled to extend into 2018.
Lake Tillery:
  • Duke Energy will lower Lake Tillery 6 to 8 feet from Oct. 29 to Nov. 16, 2018. The drawdown will begin on Oct. 22 to allow the lake level to decline slowly. This drawdown will temporarily impact the following access areas:
    • Norwood Access Area will be closed beginning Oct. 22, 2018.*
    • Lilly’s Bridge Access Area will remain open throughout drawdown. Boat ramp access may be impacted by low water levels, please use caution.*
    • Stony Mountain Access Area will remain open throughout the drawdown, please use caution while using boat ramps during the drawdown. Use of the fishing pier may be impacted by low water levels.* 
    • Swift Island Access Area will be closed beginning Oct. 22, 2018, with site improvements to occur during the lake drawdown. Swift Island Access Area will reopen at the conclusion of construction activities (estimated early winter 2018). Site improvements include:
      • accessible parking
      • picnic facilities
      • restrooms
      • event pier 
* Access areas will reopen upon return to the normal operating lake level.
