On Sept. 3, 2018, Duke Energy Hydro Operations will begin temporarily lowering normal reservoir elevations on four lakes to perform maintenance work. The reservoir drawdowns will start with Bear Creek Lake, then Cedar Cliff Lake, followed by Tanasee Creek and Wolf Creek lakes. The drawdowns have been scheduled in sequence to minimize the length of time Bear Creek Lake will be below its normal target level. The duration of the drawdown and the time required to refill the lake will depend on weather conditions and river inflows. This drawdown will temporarily impact the following access areas:

  • Wolf Creek Access Area boat ramp will be out of service beginning April 26, 2019, as the lake will be lowered approximately 22 feet below full pond elevation for maintenance work. The projected date to begin refilling is May 15, 2019, and the Wolf Creek Access Area boat ramps will be usable once the lake returns to an elevation of 87.9.
  • Additional information regarding lake drawdowns may be found here.

Lake James

  • Bridgewater Canoe Portage Access Area: closed beginning Sept. 26, 2018, for maintenance. Work is scheduled to extend into 2019.
