Water Access Alerts 

February 19, 2020 -The following Access Areas will be closed temporarily due to anticipated elevated lake levels and river flows related to heavy rainfall throughout the Nantahala, Catawba-Wateree and Yadkin-Pee Dee river basins. 

  • Catawba-Wateree
    • Cedar Creek - Rocky Creek: Cedar Creek Access Area
    • All Lake Wateree Access Areas: Lake Wateree is spilling. At lake levels over 100 feet, access areas may become inundated with water and debris. Do not attempt to access boat ramps or other access area facilities if hazardous conditions exist.  


Lake James
  • Bridgewater Canoe Portage Access Area – Due to construction activities at the Linville Dam that began in 2018 and will continue into 2020, the Bridgewater Canoe Portage, as well as Powerhouse Road, will be closed for the duration of the construction work. The Bridgewater Fishing Area remains open for use.
  • Hidden Cove Access Area – Hidden Cove Access Area is managed by Lake James State Park and closed seasonally for the winter months. The access area and all associated facilities will reopen on March 1, 2020. 
Lake Wylie
  • Ebenezer Access Area – Beginning Nov. 4, 2019, York County, in cooperation with Duke Energy, will temporarily close the boat ramps and day use facilities at Ebenezer Access Area (Ebenezer Park) on Lake Wylie for site upgrades. Work is expected to be complete with all facilities reopened by June 2020.

Fishing Creek Lake

  • Springs Park Access Area – Beginning Feb. 20, 2020, Duke Energy will temporarily close Springs Park Access Area on Fishing Creek Lake to perform installation of new amenities. The installation of a vault toilet restroom is expected to close access to the boat ramp for two days. During the closure, visitors can use the Fishing Creek Access Area, 5301 Fish Camp Road, Great Falls, S.C.

Yadkin-Pee Dee

Blewett Falls Lake 
  • Blewett Falls Tailrace Fishing Area will be closed to the public due to storm damage received during Hurricane Florence and associated construction activity in the area. A new fishing platform is currently scheduled to open to the public in 2020.  

East Fork of the Tuckasegee

Cedar Cliff Lake
  • A drawdown of Cedar Cliff Lake began on Sept. 3, 2019. The lake will be lowered approximately 40 feet below full pond to perform required maintenance at Cedar Cliff Dam. Construction is estimated to take approximately 24 months. The Cedar Cliff Access Area will be closed for the duration of the drawdown. The site will remain closed until construction is complete and the lake returns to a level of 93 feet or greater. The time required to refill the lake will depend on weather conditions and inflows. 

All closure and open dates are projected and may be impacted by weather.
