SmartPath
Frequently Asked Questions
- SmartPath is available to all North Carolina and South Carolina nonresidential electric customers of Duke Energy and Duke Energy Progress. Companies that have elected to opt out of the Energy Efficiency (EE) Rider in North Carolina and South Carolina are not eligible.
- Customers must choose from a published list of company-authorized trade allies to perform an energy assessment at the eligible customer’s facility at no charge to the customer. Customers are responsible for verifying certifications/licensing, if any, of the trade ally they choose.
- For SmartPath participants, the incentive request will be submitted by the trade ally through the Duke Energy SmartPath online tool at the beginning of the project.
- You can check on the status of your application by contacting your trade ally, calling 866.380.9580 or emailing smartpath@duke-energy.com.
- Self-installs are better suited for the Smart $aver program.
- Your trade ally will confirm all recommended products meet the SmartPath program requirements when developing your project proposal. Any non-eligible products will be identified at that time. The SmartPath team will review the proposed project, provide confirmation of qualification and determine estimated energy savings.
- The trade ally you choose to work with will provide an estimated incentive amount as part of their project proposal. After the enrollment of your new project, actual kilowatt-hour (kWh) savings will be calculated and verified by our engineering team. The final incentive amount will be paid based on your actual kWh savings.
- The customer and trade ally should agree in advance as to who will receive the incentive. The customer, trade ally, or financing agency could receive the incentive. The incentive for any installed measures will be paid directly to the authorized party as indicated on the project enrollment form upon verification that the energy efficiency measure(s) have been installed. The trade ally will reduce the customer’s installed project cost by the amount of either the forecast or the paid incentive and show it as a line item on the final invoice to the customer.
- You can get more information about equipment and customer eligibility requirements by contacting a participating trade ally or by emailing smartpath@duke-energy.com.
