For state-jurisdictional interconnection requests

Duke Energy Florida State Pre-Application Request

Prior to submitting a state-jurisdictional interconnection request, an interconnection customer may request information on a proposed generating facility by submitting a Pre-Application Report Request Form with the required non-refundable fee of $1,000. Be aware that the Pre-Application Report resulting from this request is a non-binding snapshot in time, but can be helpful in determining whether or not to move forward with an interconnection request. At the present time, the easiest way to remit the $1,000 Pre-Application payment is to either include a check with your completed Pre-Application form and mail it to the mailing address listed in the Contact Information section below, or contact us via email at DEFInterconnections@duke-energy.com if you would like to pay via an ACH transaction.

Once you determine that you will need to apply for a state-jurisdictional interconnection, download and submit the DEF State-Jurisdictional Interconnection Request Application Form. Include the required deposit of $20,000 plus $1 per kWAC with the application. Remittance information can be found on the application form. Note that, unlike the FERC interconnection process, DEF’s state-jurisdictional interconnection requests can be submitted at any time, and will be studied serially upon validation.

Note some of the following conditions under the state-jurisdictional requirements:
  • As an interconnection customer requesting interconnection of a renewable generating facility, you will be responsible for paying the cost DEF incurs to construct and maintain your interconnection.
  • DEF will need to perform an interconnection study to determine any new equipment or upgrades required to accept energy at the interconnection point. The cost of the study is also the responsibility of the interconnection customer.
  • There is a completion/performance security deposit required and that amount is determined by the size of the project.
  • Finally, the interconnection customer is responsible for the cost of the electricity it uses when its generating equipment is not in use.

Parallel connection: install backup generation

Some customers maintain separate generation systems that only occasionally and temporarily connect with the Duke Energy system. These projects typically involve coordinating information with a member of our team to determine the specifics of your project.

Electrical one-line diagrams

An electrical one-line schematic diagram that depicts the project and the equipment to be installed should accompany the interconnection request. The one-line diagram should show all electrical equipment from Duke Energy's metering location to the energy source including switches, fuses, breakers, panels, transformers, inverters, energy source, wire size, equipment ratings and transformer connections. For systems that are not inverter-based, control drawings and settings for protective relays must also be included.
