Support for the Indiana community

Our employees, your neighbors

Here in Indiana, we’ve helped power the state for more than a century. Our 2,500 employees are dedicated to producing and delivering electricity, but the company also reinvests Duke Energy shareholder earnings and employee time and talents in the communities and local economies of the 69 Indiana counties we serve.

Economic Development

  • Duke Energy has a team dedicated to working with state and local leaders to attract businesses to the state and help existing ones expand. The company was part of cooperative efforts in 2023 to attract 4,500 new jobs and $6.4 billion of new capital investment to Indiana – including notable projects wins like Meta in Jeffersonville, Ford Meter Box in Wabash, NOVAChem in Connersville, StarPlus Energy in Kokomo, and ENTEK in Terre Haute.
  • In 2023, we invested more than $665,000 in our partnerships with local, regional and state economic development organizations to help attract businesses to Indiana.
  • In 2023, we increased our Duke Energy Site Readiness portfolio to 45 sites. Since the beginning of the program, we have invested more than $1.3 million to help prepare sites for new economic development opportunities to grow the communities we serve.

Charitable Giving

  • In 2023, the Duke Energy Foundation contributed nearly $2.8 million in shareholder funding to Indiana non-profit community organizations. Grants ranged from support to help Indiana communities find new and innovative ways to address childcare gaps—a key challenge affecting Indiana’s workforce—to support for the emergency responders who join Duke Energy on the frontlines during severe weather.
  • In 2023, Duke Energy Indiana employees and retirees contributed more than $416,000 to charitable organizations and nearly 13,600 hours of volunteer time. The company match for employee giving and volunteerism was just over $474,000.
  • In 2023, we dedicated over $600,000 in financial assistance through our Share the Light Fund® to support customers struggling to pay their electric bills. We also committed $200,000 to reduce energy costs for low-income households by increasing energy efficiency and ensuring the health and safety of their homes.

Indiana Taxpayer – Hoosier State Employer

  • Duke Energy is a major Indiana taxpayer.
    • Paid more than $56 million in property and use taxes in 2023
    • Collected and sent nearly $150 million to the state in sales tax receipts in 2023
