What is Palmetto Clean Energy (PaCE)?

Palmetto Clean Energy (PaCE) is a South Carolina program designed to improve the quality of the environment by promoting the development of renewable energy resources

What are renewable energy resources?

Renewable energy is commonly defined as electricity generated from reusable resources, such as, solar, wind and biomass. Unlike fossil fuels, “renewables” are theoretically infinite in their availability and generally result in lower carbon emissions.

What is Duke Energy's role in the PaCE Program?

Working with other utilities, renewable energy resource generators, environmentalists and regulators, Duke Energy collaborated on an effort to develop a Palmetto Clean Energy program for South Carolina utility customers. Duke Energy and other participating South Carolina utilities will offer similar programs to their customers.

Who is Palmetto Clean Energy, Inc. (“PaCE”) and what is their role in Palmetto Clean Energy program?

Palmetto Clean Energy is a non-profit entity organized to promote the development of renewable energy resources in South Carolina.

What are the benefits of supporting Renewable Energy?

  • Promotes the advancement of alternative methods for generating energy.
  • Improves the quality of the environment
  • Strengthens power reliability during period of peak demand and increases the overall generating capacity of the regional electric grid.

Will I be required to purchase Palmetto Clean Energy?

No. Participation in the Palmetto Clean Energy program is completely voluntary.

Is there a North Carolina Clean Energy program?

Yes, there is a North Carolina Clean Energy program - NC GreenPower (www.ncgreenpower.com)

How much does Palmetto Clean Energy cost?

Duke Energy will offer Palmetto Clean Energy in energy blocks equivalent to 100 kilowatt-hours. The blocks are priced at flat rate. Duke Energy will offer one rate:

  • $4.00 per block
  • one block minimum, with no maximum

Customers will also have the option to make one-time contributions (Restrictions apply, see information regarding one-time contributions)

How can I make a one-time contribution?

One time contributions can be made through Duke Energy. Mail your check or money order, made out to Palmetto Clean Energy, to:

Is my contribution tax deductible?

Yes. Because PaCE is a 501(c) 3 tax-exempt nonprofit organization, your donation is deductible to the full extent allowed by law. Consult your tax professional for more information.

When can I enroll in Palmetto Clean Energy program?

Beginning February 9, 2008, customers can:

  • Complete an enrollment form on duke-energy.com
  • Complete enrollment by telephone at 1-800-943-7585
  • Complete an enrollment form provided with your April 2008 Duke Energy electric bill

Will my power source change when I purchase Palmetto Clean Energy?

No. The contribution to Palmetto Clean Energy will not affect or change the power delivered to your location.

What are the eligibility requirements to participate in the Palmetto Clean Energy program offered by Duke Energy?

Customers must have an active Duke Energy account in South Carolina

How will I be billed for my Palmetto Clean Energy contributions?

Palmetto Clean Energy contributions are billed monthly until the electric account is disconnected or the Palmetto Clean Energy contribution is removed by a Duke Energy representative.

How are Palmetto Clean Energy charges added to my bill?

Palmetto Clean Energy charges appear as a separate line item on your Duke Energy bill.

Can I change the amount I contribute to the Palmetto Clean Energy program?

Yes. To increase, decrease or cancel your PaCE monthly contribution, please contact Duke Energy’s customer service 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-800-777-9898.

Can a Palmetto Clean Energy customer have Equal Payment Plan (EPP) or Fixed Payment Plan (FPP)?

Yes. Palmetto Clean Energy contributions are not calculated as part of the EPP or FPP amount.

Can Duke Energy remove me from the Palmetto Clean Energy program?

Yes. Palmetto Clean Energy contributions are not calculated as part of the EPP or FPP amount.

  • Electric service is transferred to another location
  • Electric service is disconnected
  • Palmetto Clean Energy is 60 days in arrears
  • Request by the customer.

Can my electric service be disconnected if Palmetto Clean Energy charges are not paid?

No. Palmetto Clean Energy charges are not included in the delinquent amount subject to disconnection.
