Frontier Windpower Project | Duke Energy Renewables
Frontier Windpower Project
Kay County, Oklahoma
Project type: Wind
Location: Kay County, Oklahoma
Project size: 200-megawatt
The Frontier Windpower Project was Duke Energy's first wind project in Oklahoma and the first time Vestas’ extra-large 126-meter rotors were deployed in the U.S.
Operational in late December 2016, the Frontier Windpower Project is under a 22-year agreement with City Utilities of Springfield, Missouri. The 200-megawatt Frontier Wind produces enough emissions-free electricity to power about 60,000 average homes. It is comprised of 3.3-megawatt turbines and the largest Vestas blades in the U.S. Amshore US Wind provided development support for the project, and Wanzek Construction was the contractor.
