Water Quality Initiatives

Protecting lakes, rivers and shorelines

Water is a shared natural resource that needs to be protected. We share the water and shoreline with everyone. Water is an important part of energy generation, but also an important part of the community. That's why we're doing everything possible to keep these lakes and rivers healthy.
  • Problem Aquatic Wildlife

A crucial part of monitoring and caring for the environment around our rivers and lakes is keeping plants and animals that are not native to the area under control.

  • Cultural Resources

Cultural resources provide clues about our history and prehistory. Duke Energy is committed to protecting irreplaceable archaeological and historic resources.

Shoreline management plans

  • Catawba-Wateree

We're working every day to balance the environmental, recreational and cultural needs of the Catawba-Wateree river system.

  • Keowee-Toxaway

We've developed a Shoreline Management Plan (SMP) to assist in guiding responsible construction, shoreline stabilization and excavation on the boundary of Lake Keowee.

  • Yadkin-Pee Dee

The Tillery and Blewett Hydroelectric Plants are located in the Southern Piedmont area of North Carolina and together they create Lake Tillery.
