Duke Energy is committed to providing cost-effective and reliable energy to our customers in Hamilton County, Ohio. We continually evaluate our network of power lines that serve homes, schools and businesses to determine the best solutions to meet the region's growing energy needs – now and in the future. To keep our commitment, we need to upgrade the existing electric transmission system in your area.
Recent inspections show that we must replace five utility poles that support a 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line along Mill Creek near Mitchell Avenue in Hamilton County, Ohio. This project will ensure continued reliability of electric service in the region.
The existing poles will be replaced with five steel poles that range in height from 100 to 110 feet, which are up to 25 feet taller than the current utility poles. The new poles will include concrete foundations with base diameters of about 8 feet. The poles support approximately 1,200 feet of 138-kV transmission line.
Construction for the foundations for the new poles is planned through October 2020. Work to install the new poles and transmission line is expected to begin in late March 2021, followed by more work and expected completion in October 2021.
A notice to construct, operate and maintain this electric transmission line project was filed on Jan. 23, 2020, with the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) in Columbus, Ohio.
