East Provident Transmission

Transmission Investments

Reliability is a responsibility that Duke Energy takes very seriously. To keep that commitment, we're upgrading the electric transmission system in the West Chester Township community, a project critical to ensuring continued reliability of the area's electric service. Duke Energy is building a new 138-kilovolt (kV) substation at the site of the former property of R&R Family Investments, LLC, located at 5020 Provident Drive in West Chester Township.

Project Need

Demand for energy has grown in Butler County and Duke Energy is committed to providing dependable, cost-effective and reliable service to our customers in Southwest Ohio. This project will provide greater energy capacity and enhanced service reliability for this growing community.

Project Description

Construction of the new substation began in late August with completion planned for June 2018. Area businesses may see occasional lane closures on Provident Drive as materials are delivered to the site.

The substation will be inside a securely-fenced area with a gravel base. It will have capacity for three transformers to change voltage levels from high transmission voltages to lower distribution voltages in order to provide power to homes and businesses. The substation will contain a small building inside the fence that houses substation controls. The substation will have directional lighting at night for safety and security.

Transmission Line Proposal: Public Input Invited

As part of this project, Duke Energy Ohio is proposing the construction of a new electric transmission line. This 138-kilovolt (kV) line is proposed to begin at Duke Energy's East Provident Substation that is under construction.

A letter of notification to construct, operate, and maintain this electric transmission line is now pending before the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB). Letters also were sent to neighboring property owners and tenants, explaining how they can participate in the process.

View the copy of the application filing. A paper copy of the application may be obtained, at cost, by contacting the Company at 888.827.5116.
