Gas Main Replacement Program
Accelerated Main Replacement Program (AMRP)
Duke Energy is continually working to improve service to our gas customers. You may notice more construction crews working on natural gas lines in many communities throughout our service territory. This is the result of our natural gas Accelerated Main Replacement Program (AMRP), approved by The Public Utility Commission of Ohio (PUCO) in 2001. The goal of the program is to replace all 12" and smaller cast iron and bare steel gas mains over the next 15 years. Nearly 1,200 miles of old pipelines will be replaced throughout our service territory. Annually the goal is to replace 80 miles per year.
New technologies have improved the reliability of gas mains through new protective coatings and plastics. Employing this technology in conjunction with the AMRP will enable Duke Energy to continue to provide reliable, efficient, proficient and safe gas service. Equally important, the program also enables Duke Energy to keep future operation and maintenance expenses to their lowest reasonable level.
