Medical Alert is a Duke Energy program that recognizes our customers who have special medical needs. This program was created to help ensure careful handling of accounts where the disconnection of electric service for a past due bill could adversely affect the well-being of an occupant. To help ensure sensitive handling of Medical Alert customers subject to disconnection for nonpayment, indicators will be placed on their accounts and meter.
Participation in the program does not mean that your power will not be disconnected for nonpayment or interrupted due to an outage. Also, when there is a major outage, participation does not mean that you will be the first to have power restored. Customers with medical needs should make preparations in advance for extended outages due to storms or other causes.
Medical Alert Requirements
Medical Alert may be assigned to a customerís account, if a member of the customerís household is either:
- Chronically or seriously ill
- On a life-support system
