2005 Earnings

Year-End and Fourth Quarter 2005

Duke Energy today reported 2005 basic earnings per share (EPS) of $1.94, or $1.82 billion in net income, compared to $1.59 per share in 2004, or $1.49 billion in net income. On a diluted basis, 2005 EPS was $1.88, compared to $1.54 in 2004.

Third Quarter 2005

Duke Energy today reported third quarter 2005 basic earnings per share (EPS) of $0.04, or $41 million in net income, compared to $0.41 per share in third quarter 2004, or $389 million in net income. This quarter's results include charges related to the previously announced plan to exit substantially all of Duke Energy's North America's (DENA) business outside of the Midwest, which totaled $0.84 per share. This amount was partially offset by a gain on the transfer of a 19.7 percent interest of Duke Energy Field Services to ConocoPhillips, which totaled $0.39 per share.

Second Quarter 2005

Duke Energy today reported second quarter 2005 basic earnings per share (EPS) of $0.33, or $309 million in net income, compared to $0.46 per share in second quarter 2004, or $432 million. On a diluted basis, second quarter 2005 earnings were $0.32 per share, compared to $0.45 in second quarter 2004. An earnings conference call for analysts is scheduled for 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday, August 3.

First Quarter 2005

Duke Energy today reported first quarter 2005 basic earnings per share (EPS) of $0.91, or $868 million in net income, compared to $0.34 per share in first quarter 2004, or $311 million. On a diluted basis, first quarter 2005 earnings were $0.88 per share, compared to $0.33 in first quarter 2004. An earnings conference call for analyst is scheduled for 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday, May 4.
