Seniors and low-income Ohio natural gas customers may qualify for a one-time bill payment.

Special Assistance Funds Available for Residential Customers

Duke Energy has allocated $3.5 million to fund bill assistance for current Ohio natural gas customers who are low-income or 65 or older. The funds have been made available as the result of a settlement agreement approved by The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). $500,000 is available to qualifying senior citizens, and $3 million is available to qualifying low-income customers.

Eligibility Requirements

Current senior citizens 65 or older or low-income Ohio natural gas customers may qualify to receive a one-time payment of $500 toward their natural gas bill. To qualify, customers must be at or below 250% of the federal poverty guidelines and must have an account registered in their name.

Timing

Funds will remain available until the $3.5 million has been pledged to qualifying customer accounts.

Where to Apply

Council on Aging – Customers 65 or older needing assistance paying an energy bill should contact the Council on Aging by calling 513.721.1025. Clermont County residents should contact Clermont Senior Services at 513.724.1255.

Community Action Agencies – These assistance funds will be available for utility bills through Community Action Agencies in southwest Ohio. To learn more and to apply, call the agency in your area.
