Helping Hand is an assistance program available to eligible Duke Energy customers during the winter. This program, funded by Duke Energy shareholders, employees and customers lends a Helping Hand to customers who are least able to cope with winter electric bills.
How the Helping Hand Program Works
Beginning each fall, the Helping Hand Program will provide financial assistance to Duke Energy customers who meet certain criteria. The Helping Hand Program can provide assistance, up to $300 toward their electric bill, if their local Energy Assistance Program agency determines they are eligible based on need and other criteria.
Helping Hand Program Qualifications
The company is expanding the program to include any Duke Energy Indiana customer who qualifies based on income guidelines. Previously, only low income customers at least 60 years old or disabled were eligible.
How to Apply
Duke Energy Indiana partners with the Indiana Community Action Association and the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority's Energy Assistance Program, which distributes the company's assistance funds.
If funds are still available by summer, they can also be used for summer cooling bills.
To make a donation
If you would like to share the warmth with those less fortunate in your community, contributions can be made in two ways. You may add a donation to your monthly Duke Energy bill. Most monthly bills have a special notation in the upper right-hand corner to mark your Helping Hand donation. Write in the dollar amount you would like to give (in even dollar amounts) and add the amount to your bill payment.
You may also mail donations (check or money order only). Please mail donations to:
139 E. 4th Street
Cincinnati, Ohio 45202
Paperless Billing customer donations
Our Paperless Billing customers can easily make a donation online while scheduling their monthly Duke Energy Payment. Customers will need to complete the secton titled 'Customer Contribution' if they would like to make a donation to Helping Hand.
Donations may be tax deductible and are forwarded to the Indiana Community Action Association Energy Assistance Program (EAP) for distribution for those in need.
