The Bad Creek Outdoor Classroom in Salem, S.C., opened in May 2012. Located in a small clearing, the classroom’s covered area offers students and teachers an opportunity to experience the region’s wildlife and ecosystems firsthand. Student visitors can learn about the environment and how we generate electricity. Two nature trails highlight this natural, forested community.
Within a short distance of the Outdoor Classroom is the Bad Creek Pumped-Storage Hydro Station. This 1,065-megawatt facility is the largest hydroelectric station on our system and is unique in that it can operate in either generation or pumping mode.
