Community and service are integrated into everything our company does. Through the Duke Energy Foundation, we provide philanthropic support to address the needs vital to the health of our communities. Annually, the Foundation funds more than $25 million in charitable grants, with a focus on education, environment, economic and workforce development and community impact.

Education and workforce development are central to our charitable investments. Reading proficiency is the most important predictor of school success and high school graduation. By supporting childhood literacy programs, we help bridge the achievement gap and seek to end the cycle of poverty. Our investment in education and workforce development programs spans K-to-career to help ensure local businesses have a pipeline of talent and a diverse workforce. We will continue to build upon the legacy of our founders, whose dedication to community development and education has continued to enhance the regions where Duke Energy serves.

About the Duke Energy Water Resources Fund

Duke Energy is investing $10 million to fund programs benefiting waterways in the Carolinas and waterways downstream from our Carolinas operations that flow into Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia.

Since the fund was launched in September 2014, more than 45 projects totaling over $4 million have received support from the Water Resources Fund. The Water Resources Fund is leaving a lasting impact on our region's waterways by expanding nonprofit partnerships and enhancing the environments where families live, play and work.

Disaster Relief

Sending help after natural disasters

When hurricanes, floods and other natural disasters strike, the Duke Energy Foundation works closely with organizations such as the American Red Cross to provide relief in Duke Energy communities. Because we work directly with beneficiary agencies, we do not accept grant applications for disaster relief programs.

STEM Students in classroom

Helping young students read for success

Strong reading skills can help children succeed and get excited about science, technology, engineering and math. This year, we launched a partnership with Reading Is Fundamental, the nationís largest childhood literacy organization, to minimize the summer slide and improve the reading skills of more than 3,000 current second graders in South Carolina. The Duke Energy Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization funded with shareholder funds and governed by a board of trustees.
