Community Initiatives - Duke Energy Foundation

Local programs. Big impact.

Our community initiatives target specific programs that generate long-term, large-scale impact.

  • Supporting the Charlotte nonprofit community through event sponsorships and grant-making is an important component of Duke Energy’s philanthropic giving in our headquarters city.  Each year, we strive to support the mission and good work of a wide variety of nonprofit organizations through cash and in-kind donations. This process is separate from our grant-making process as sponsorships may include tangible benefits. Our Charlotte Community Affairs group is responsible for grants and managing event sponsorships.

  • To address the increasing workforce demand, Duke Energy is partnering with the South Carolina Technical College association to help advance lineman training programs. More details and announcement on this program is scheduled for late Fall 2018.
  • Grants are awarded to North Carolina community and technical colleges in Duke Energy's or Piedmont Natural Gas’ service areas, for registered apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs designed for new and incumbent workers, preferably within the manufacturing industry. These programs give students hands-on experience and businesses access to a pipeline of skilled workers.

A grants committee representing the NC Department of Commerce, NC Community College System and Duke Energy will review and award the grants.

The North Carolina Community Foundation and Foundation for the Carolinas administer the program on behalf of Duke Energy. Learn more about the program and application process.
