How It Works

How it works.

Here's how the Time-of-Use Rate SGS-TOUE program works.

Play Video
Under the Duke Energy Time-of-Use Rate SGS-TOUE program, you pay a higher on-peak rate during specific times of the day when demand for electricity is high, a shoulder rate for medium-demand hours, and an off-peak rate during the rest of the time – when demand for electricity is lower.

You could save money IF you can shift some of your electric use away from peak electric use periods. The more electric use you shift away from on-peak and shoulder hours, the more money you could save.

How SGS-TOUE Rate works:

In the cooling season, on weekdays from April through September, you pay the on-peak rate from 1 to 6 p.m.; a shoulder rate from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.; and pay an off-peak rate during the remaining hours in the day, including weekends and holidays.

In the heating season, on weekdays from October through March, you pay the on-peak rate from 6 to 9 a.m.; shoulder rate from 9 a.m. to noon and 5 to 8 p.m.; and pay off-peak rate during the remaining hours in the day, including weekends and holidays.

How do savings get measured?
If your business does not already have one of our state-of-the-art digital electric meters, we’ll install one, free of charge. Digital meters differentiate between on-peak, off-peak and shoulder hours. Reduce and shift your electric use to save money through less use at a lower kWh rate.
