Who is eligible for participation in the Time-of-Use Rate SGS-TOUE rate program?
Participation in the program is available to individual industrial or commercial customers with a kilowatt (kW) demand of less than 30 kW. The rate is not available to the individual customer who qualifies for a residential schedule.
Duke Energy is offering this Time-of-Use Rate SGS-TOUE program to provide choices to our customers and increase the efficiency of our electricity system. For customers, the SGS-TOUE rate offers more control over their electricity costs. For Duke Energy, the rates encourage customers to use more of their electricity during lower-cost times, thus helping to balance the electric load on our system.
On the SGS-TOUE rate, you can lower your bill by shifting your electricity usage to off-peak periods. This gives you more control over your electric bills. In addition, it is important to manage how much equipment is drawing power at the same time because this can affect your demand and subsequently the demand charge that is part of the SGS-TOUE rate.
We will send you a bill comparison each month to show you how you performed versus the Schedule SGS rate.
If you do not change your electricity usage patterns, your bill may increase. However, the SGS-TOUE rate gives you the opportunity to save money by shifting your electricity usage to the less expensive off-peak times.
The Time-of-Use Rate SGS-TOUE is an ongoing rate offering. Duke Energy Progress will install a digital meter – if needed -- without charge but expects customers to remain on the new rate program for a minimum of one year.
With SGS-TOUE rates, the price you pay for electricity changes based on the time of day you use it and our cost of supplying electricity to you during that time. If you use electricity when the demand for electricity is low—known as off-peak hours—your rate will be lower. Electricity used during periods of high demand—known as on-peak hours— will cost more. So, when you use electricity is just as important as how much you use.
