Duke Energy is strengthening the state's energy grid, making it more resilient and secure. These enhancements will improve power quality and reliability for all our customers. Our goal is to consistently meet power demand with safe, reliable, dependable and increasingly clean energy for homes, schools and businesses, both now and into the future.
Overview of the project
The South Point Substation project is a system reliability enhancement project needed to support current and future energy growth for Gaston County. With current and expected growth of the region, we need to take steps to support communities in Gaston County for years to come. South Point Substation will allow Duke Energy to reinforce our electric system and continue providing reliable service to our customers. The new substation will be located on Canal Road near South Point Road, next to the existing Red Raider Substation in Belmont, N.C.
The new substation is one of several projects in the region designed to strengthen the grid, improve reliability and enhance service to Duke Energy customers. These improvements will help support economic and community growth, make the grid more resistant to power outages from storms and other physical threats, and prepare for energy opportunities of the future.
