How do I know if I am eligible to participate?

You must have a digital meter and purchase your electricity from Duke Energy Ohio. Also your account must be in satisfactory standing and not part of any payment assistance programs.

How do I sign-up for the My Select Rate pilot program?

You can sign up by going to or by calling 800-591-3853 Monday - Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

If I participate in the My Select Rate pilot could my electric bill increase?

If you do not shift your energy usage away from the 3 hour on-peak time you choose, it could cause your bill to increase. However, you have the opportunity to save money the other 95 percent of the year.

How long is the program?

The pilot will run from May 1, 2013 through May 31, 2015, and we will accept enrollments until June 1, 2014.

Are there incentives associated with the pilot?

Yes. By participating in surveys or other incentives like referrals, you can earn money that will accumulate in a "Bonus Bank" to be paid out at the end of the pilot via a Visa Prepaid Card.

What are the months or seasons for this pilot?

Winter months are December through February, spring is March through May, summer is June through August and fall is September through November.

What are the time periods that I need to pay attention to?

On-peak pricing is in affect only during the 3 hours you select during winter and summer weekdays. All other times are low cost off-peak pricing:

* Note that on My Select Rate all weekend and holiday hours are off-peak

How can I save on this rate?

You can save during every off-peak period because they are always lower than the standard residential rate and in effect 95 percent of the year. However, you must minimize and/or shift your energy usage away from the on-peak times you have chosen during the summer and winter months.

How will I know how I'm doing on the rate?

We will send you a bill comparison two times a year to show you how you performed versus Duke Energy’s standard residential rate

What if I want to leave the pilot?

After 12 months on the pilot you will have the opportunity to opt out of the pilot.

Will there be changes on how I'm billed?

No, you will have the same billing experience you have now. If you are on Budget Billing, you may potentially see a reduced amount due to pilot savings after your annual or quarterly review.

Is my household equipment controlled by Duke Energy?

No, we do not control any of your equipment; shifting energy during on-peak periods is up to you and only you.

What is Electric Choice?

It is when you purchase electricity from a supplier other then Duke Energy Ohio. Your city or township may also be part of an electric aggregation program, where residents are offered a special electric rate. Many times to stop from participating, you must opt out of the program.

What are the savings based on?

Savings up to 25 percent is based on a two-year average of what you paid for your electric supply or (generation and transmission) from Duke Energy Ohio vs. the My Select Rate supply price. You still will pay for distribution charges (delivery of your electricity) and your monthly charge just like you do now.
