The Generation and Transmission of Electricity

Elementary school students will love our basic electricity presentation, which explains what electricity is, how it is made and how it is transmitted from our power plants to our communities. A member of our staff will use hands-on activities to explain the secrets of atoms, magnets, conductors, insulators, generators and turbines.  This engaging program also includes a hair-raising experience with the van de Graaff machine. This program is generally recommended for students in 3rd – 6th grades.

Nuclear Energy & Oconee Nuclear Station

This program explains how electricity is generated from the energy of an atom. It also focuses on the safe and reliable operation of Oconee Nuclear Station and explains the advantages of nuclear power. This program is generally recommended for any groups above the 6th grade level.

Brain Teaser

In this challenging game, students will be asked to search for items and answers as they walk through the Story of Energy tour. You can choose from an easier, elementary version or a slightly more difficult middle school version.

Our extensive video collection brings additional fun to your visit. Learn about basic electricity, nuclear energy, environmental conservation or the history of our area lakes. We have videos for all ages, and the lengths of the movies vary from five to 25 minutes. Click here to review our selection and choose a movie for your group.

Picnic Shelter

Plan to pack a lunch or snack and eat under our picnic shelter while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Lake Keowee. When booking your group visit, please be sure to indicate if you’d like to reserve the picnic shelter.

The nature trail begins just a short walk from the World of Energy’s front doors. It is filled with local wildlife and offers opportunities to learn, as well as play. The trail is regularly maintained and is surrounded by several water fountains.
