APRIL
Super Tuesday - April 10, 2012 10 a.m. - Where on earth is Mr. Carlos Luria - CIA?
Educated in Germany, England and the U.S., Carlos Luria was recruited by the CIA as it geared up to meet the Soviet threat. After tours as a field officer he became the executive officer of what in the James Bond movies is designated as "Q" - to be more exact, the 400+ scientists, engineers and technicians who create the technical tools needed for clandestine intelligence collection. Mr. Luria will share a review of the CALILLY operation that tipped us off to the Berlin Wall. This amusing story generates mystery and intrigue while showing the lighter side of people all around us. Mr. Luria will include in his talk a review of some of today's commonplace devices that began life as CIA funded projects, such as the ubiquitous Post-Em notes that began life a as tacky transfer sheet used to lift secret writing. Come join the fun and listen to the intriguing stories he has to share. Light refreshments will follow the presentation.
