Special Needs
Duke Energy has programs to assist customers who have special needs. Any customer of record who is 65 or older qualifies as a special needs customer. An indicator will be placed on your account to help ensure careful handling year round if your electric service is scheduled for disconnection for an unpaid bill.Participation in the program does not mean that your power will not be disconnected for nonpayment or interrupted due to an outage. Also, when there is a major outage, participation does not mean that you will be the first to have power restored. Customers with special or medical needs should prepare in advance for extended outages due to storms or other causes.
