Palmetto Clean Energy (PaCE) is a South Carolina program designed to improve the quality of the environment by promoting the development of renewable energy resources

Renewable energy is commonly defined as electricity generated from reusable resources, such as, solar, wind and biomass. Unlike fossil fuels, “renewables” are theoretically infinite in their availability and generally result in lower carbon emissions.

Working with other utilities, renewable energy resource generators, environmentalists and regulators, Duke Energy collaborated on an effort to develop a Palmetto Clean Energy program for South Carolina utility customers. Duke Energy and other participating South Carolina utilities will offer similar programs to their customers.

Palmetto Clean Energy is a non-profit entity organized to promote the development of renewable energy resources in South Carolina.

• Strengthens power reliability during period of peak demand and increases the overall generating capacity of the regional electric grid.

No. Participation in the Palmetto Clean Energy program is completely voluntary.

Yes, there is a North Carolina Clean Energy program - NC GreenPower (www.ncgreenpower.com)

Duke Energy will offer Palmetto Clean Energy in energy blocks equivalent to 100 kilowatt-hours. The blocks are priced at flat rate. Duke Energy will offer one rate:

• $4.00 per block
• one block minimum, with no maximum

Customers will also have the option to make one-time contributions (Restrictions apply, see information regarding one-time contributions)

One time contributions can be made through Duke Energy. Mail your check or money order, made out to Palmetto Clean Energy, to:

Yes. Because PaCE is a 501(c) 3 tax-exempt nonprofit organization, your donation is deductible to the full extent allowed by law. Consult your tax professional for more information.

Beginning February 9, 2008, customers can:

• Complete an enrollment form on duke-energy.com
• Complete enrollment by telephone at 1-800-943-7585
• Complete an enrollment form provided with your April 2008 Duke Energy electric bill

No. The contribution to Palmetto Clean Energy will not affect or change the power delivered to your location.

Customers must have an active Duke Energy account in South Carolina

Palmetto Clean Energy contributions are billed monthly until the electric account is disconnected or the Palmetto Clean Energy contribution is removed by a Duke Energy representative.

Palmetto Clean Energy charges appear as a separate line item on your Duke Energy bill.

Yes. To increase, decrease or cancel your PaCE monthly contribution, please contact Duke Energy’s customer service 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-800-777-9898.

Yes. Palmetto Clean Energy contributions are not calculated as part of the EPP or FPP amount.

Yes. Palmetto Clean Energy contributions are not calculated as part of the EPP or FPP amount.

• Electric service is transferred to another location
• Electric service is disconnected
• Palmetto Clean Energy is 60 days in arrears
• Request by the customer.

No. Palmetto Clean Energy charges are not included in the delinquent amount subject to disconnection.
