Duke Energy recently completed its merger with Progress Energy. We're now one company with common goals: to continue providing safe and reliable electricity, and excellent service to our customers and communities. For now, all aspects of your service and account will remain the same. Please see below for answers to more frequently asked questions.

What does this merger mean for the two companies?
The merger creates the largest U.S. utility with the strength to meet the region's energy needs reliably, affordably and in an environmentally responsible manner. The combined company will maintain and expand both companies' histories of community support, investment and commitment. Learn more.
Will our rates change?
Your rates will not change as a result of the merger. Progress Energy and Duke Energy will continue to have separate rate structures until some point in the future. However, for customers in the Carolinas, the merger is expected to create savings through the joint operation of the companies' power plant fleets. Those savings will help reduce the impact of other rising costs.
Is there anything my business needs to do differently?
No. Nothing has changed in regards to your service or your account. You will continue to receive reliable service and pay your bill in the same way. You will also continue to use the same contact information and the same website, www.duke-energy.com.
Will our electric service change?
You will see no immediate changes. You can continue to count on our reliable service and quality programs, and contact us as you always have. We will communicate any changes to you as needed.
Does our online account change?
No. Your online account remains the same. Continue to log on at www.duke-energy.com with your current username and password. We will communicate any changes to this process as needed.
What happens to electronic payments we've set up?
The merger has no affect on your electronic payment process or schedule. We will communicate any changes to this process as needed.

For now, our outage reporting remains the same. To report or view current outages online, or to report via phone, visit www.duke-energy.com and select the "Outage & Storm Information" option from the left side menu. However, the costs of producing and delivering electricity continue to rise, and both utilities have previously scheduled rate increase requests that will be filed later this year and next year in the Carolinas. Over time, the savings produced by merging the companies will reduce the impact of price increases.

What does this merger mean for the two companies?

Duke Energy completed its merger with Progress Energy on July 3, 2012. The merger, which was announced in early 2011, gained approval from both companies' shareholders and all necessary regulatory bodies.
Benefits of the new Duke Energy
  • The strategic combination of companies will deliver future savings from streamlining corporate services and enabling better access to financial markets to mitigate rising electricity prices.
