Brunswick Nuclear Emergency Preparedness

Siren tests in Brunswick County
To support annual maintenance of the Brunswick Nuclear Plant sirens located within the 10-mile emergency planning zone, short-duration growl tests will be conducted between Monday, May 16, and Thursday, May 26. Tests will last approximately 10 seconds, and each siren may be sounded more than once to ensure operability. Work will be conducted Monday through Thursday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Because sirens are tested individually, it is difficult to provide specific times when residents can expect to hear them. As a reminder, sirens are designed as outdoor warning devices and may not be heard inside.

Brunswick Nuclear Plant is dedicated to the safe, reliable and efficient production of electricity. Duke Energy would immediately notify federal, state and local authorities of a problem at the plant. These officials would then notify you if any action were necessary.
