Units 3 and 4 of the Asheville Plant, both combustion turbines, came on line in 1999 and 2000, are capable of producing a total of 324 megawatts of peaking power. Located in Skyland, N.C., the site also includes two coal-fired units capable of producing 376 megawatts.The Asheville Plant, the largest electric generating facility in western North Carolina, began commercial operation in 1964.
