Solar Renewable Energy Credits Program Solar PV systems generating more than clean energy

Solar Panels Atop a House

Not only can your solar photovoltaic (PV) system generate clean energy, it can also produce solar renewable energy credits (RECs) that you can sell to Duke Energy.

Duke Energy’s Solar Renewable Energy Credits program offers Ohio residential customers a way to capture the environmental benefits of the green power generated by their solar energy system. We’ll pay existing market prices for the RECs we purchase from qualifying solar projects.

What are solar RECs?

Solar RECs are tradable certificates that represent all the clean energy benefits of electricity generated from a solar PV electric system. A solar REC is produced each time your solar system generates 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity.

For example, if your residential solar facility generates 2,000 kWh within a year, you could sell two solar RECs to Duke Energy Ohio.

How can I participate in the solar REC program?

You may qualify for the program if you meet these eligibility requirements.
