Interval Meter Installations Business & Large Business Customers

Meter Requirements

An interval meter is required if you choose a Customer Choice supplier and have a maximum peak demand greater than or equal to 200 kW for the most recent twelve-month period. Interval meters are also required if you have an interruptible load contract with your supplier.

If you are required to have an interval meter to participate in the Ohio Customer Choice program, service may begin prior to having an interval meter installed, assuming you have completed and submitted a signed interval meter request work order approving the installation. After the completed interval meter request work order has been submitted and prior to the meter's installation, Duke Energy Ohio will use consumption meter reads for billing.

You will be responsible for the incremental costs of upgrading the present meter and the additional costs associated with the installation of required interval metering. To avoid delays in your participation in the Ohio Customer Choice program it is recommended that your supplier, on your behalf, fax the customer-signed work order to the Certified Supplier Business Center at 513-287-2718. Your enrollment may be delayed if interaction is necessary for Duke Energy Ohio to coordinate the receipt of the signed work order directly from you.

Non-Required Interval Metering

You, or your supplier on your behalf, may request that an interval meter be installed where one is not mandated (below the 200kW interval meter threshold). An example might be if a supplier offers a special pricing structure that would require this type of installation.  The requested interval meter will be used for customer billing. You will be responsible for the additional cost of upgrading the present meter and the costs associated with the installation of the meter.
