Frequently Asked Questions
Is the e-Bill service secure?
Yes. For security and privacy of transactions, enrollment requires a user name and password to log on to the online billing service. We use 128-bit encryption, which is the safest encryption technology available today.
What are my payment options with e-Bill?
Our e-Bill program allows you to deduct your monthly payment from either your checking or money market account using the payment option that best meets your needs. For added convenience, you can set up multiple payment accounts to pay your energy bill.
AutoPay – The easiest way to pay your Duke Energy e-Bill by having your bill automatically deducted from your bank account each month on the due date. For added convenience and control, the AutoPay option allows you to designate an account with a payment threshold. For example, if you set an account payment threshold of $150.00 and your monthly energy bill exceeds that amount, your monthly energy bill will not be paid. You will need to electronically authorize the payment for your Duke Energy account online that month.
Once you enroll with the AutoPay option, the current bill and all future bills will be automatically paid.
Pay Online – Electronically authorize the payment of your monthly energy bill on the day you select.
Once you enroll with the Pay Online option, you can pay your current bill online.
Who can enroll?
Existing customers can enroll anytime. New customers can enroll after receiving their first bill.
Will I be able to pay immediately after I enroll my account?
Yes. Your account will be available to pay online immediately after you enroll for e-Bill.
Will I continue to receive a paper bill if I enroll with e-Bill?
You will receive one more paper bill after you enroll. Each month after that, we will send you an e-mail indicating your current bill is available online to view and pay.
How do I enroll multiple accounts?
You have the option to enroll multiple accounts during the registration process or after one account has been registered with Online Services. To enroll multiple accounts during the registration process, click the "Add another account" link on the Registration Confirmation page and follow the prompts. If you’ve already registered an account with Online Services, you can add another account by clicking the "Add an Account" button located in the top left corner of the Online Services Home Page.
How much time do I need to allow when scheduling my payments online?
The payment date is the date that you can expect Duke Energy to receive your payment. If you are scheduling a payment before 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) today, you can make the payment date as early as tomorrow. If you schedule a payment after 1 p.m. EST, the earliest you can make the payment date is the day after tomorrow.
May I use my credit card to pay my bill?
You can pay online by credit card using Western Union Speedpay®. Speedpay charges a convenience fee for using this service. For your convenience, this service is available 24 hours every day.
What should I do if I transfer my service to another location?
Your new account is not automatically enrolled once you transfer your service. You can use Online Services to turn on the electric service at your new location, as well as making arrangements to turn off your existing electric service. You can pay your final bill for your existing location online. Once you’ve paid your final bill for your existing service through e-Bill, please follow these steps to remove this account from your e-Bill profile:
- Log in to Online Services.
- Click on Setup - Service Accounts.
- Click on Cancel next to the account you no longer wish to pay with e-Bill.
Note: You can sign up for e-Bill at your new location as soon as you receive your first bill. Once your initial bill arrives in the mail, log in to Online Services to enroll.
I am now enrolled in e-Bill and have not received my first bill electronically. Can I still pay my current bill online?
Yes, an e-Bill payment can be made before receiving the first bill following enrollment. Log in to Online Services and click on Pay Bill and follow the prompts.
