Siren Tests Oconee

Sirens are tested regularly to ensure they are working correctly. The testing is part of normal maintenance and no public action is necessary.

Sirens are tested on the second Wednesday of each quarter. Siren test dates for 2008 are:

  • January 9
  • April 1*
  • July 9
  • October 8

Siren tests normally occur around 11:50 a.m. and last approximately three minutes. Remember, in an emergency, sirens would sound repeatedly.

For information, call Oconee Nuclear Station’s visitor center, World of Energy, at 1-800-777-1004, option 1.

*The April 1 siren test will occur on a Tuesday between 10 a.m. and noon. Clemson University will also be testing its campus siren system on April 1.
