Why are we charging a connect fee?

There is a cost to Duke Energy to establish an electric service account. The cost covers field activity, office administrative work and the entire process of establishing an account. Currently, this cost is passed on to all customers. By charging a connection fee only to those customers who establish new service, we are working to keep overall cost lower for all customers.

Will the connect fee impact residential or non-residential customers?

All metered residential and non-residential accounts will be assessed a connect fee each time a new account is established, this includes setting new meters, connecting an existing meter and transferring an existing service into someone else’s name.

Will "Revert to Owner" Customers (RTO) be charges a connect fee?

Yes. A connect fee will be charged each time a new account is established, this includes setting new meters, connecting an existing meter and transferring an existing service into someone else’s name.
