DUKE POWER ANNOUNCES NEW SCUFFLETOWN ROAD TRANSMISSION LINE LOCATION AND SUBSTATION

GREENVILLE, S. C. -- Duke Power today announced a route for a new 100,000-volt transmission line in Simpsonville, South Carolina and its plans to build a new substation near the intersection of Scuffletown and East Georgia Roads.

"The new substation and transmission line will provide an ongoing supply of safe, reliable electricity to our customers in Greenville and Laurens Counties where steady growth in electrical demand is occurring" said Theopolis Holeman, Duke Power group vice president, power delivery. "Our long-range planning process monitors and tracks growth in population and electrical demand and indicates a strong need for this addition."

The new 100,000-volt transmission line right of way will be 68 feet wide, and the new route is approximately 3.3 miles long.  The route was selected after a comprehensive and thorough siting study, which included input from property owners during two community workshops, questionnaires, and an array of environmental, cultural, land use, water quality, economic and aesthetic data collected from nine potential corridors.

The substation and transmission line will be in service by summer 2007.
