Duke Energy Gives Additional Boost to Customer Assistance HeatShare and WinterCare Programs Jan. 26, 2009
A sluggish economy has made this year's heating season especially difficult for many Ohio and Kentucky residents who are already struggling to cover their heating bills. To ease this situation, the Duke Energy Foundation will contribute an additional $200,000 to the programs, with $150,000 going to Duke Energy's Ohio HeatShare program and $50,000 to the company's Kentucky WinterCare program.
Duke Energy Ohio currently contributes $100,000 each year to HeatShare and matches up to $100,000 in donations from customers and employees. Duke Energy Kentucky contributes $25,000 annually to WinterCare and matches up to $25,000 in donations. The $200,000 will be added to the current contributions.
Duke Energy serves approximately 1.1 million electric and gas customers in Ohio and 225,000 in Northern Kentucky.
Duke Energy's HeatShare program has provided more than $3 million to Ohio residents since 1996. The program has already provided a total of $300,000 to be distributed to residents this winter.
Since 1996, the company's WinterCare program has distributed more than $760,000 to Kentucky residents in Duke Energy's Northern Kentucky service territory. This additional $50,000 to the program is in addition to the $25,000 already contributed. The WinterCare program distributed more than $36,000 last year
