Duke Energy Appoints Esamann Indiana President Nov. 8, 2010
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -
Duke Energy announced today that it has appointed Doug Esamann president of its Indiana service region.
Esamann has been interim president of the company’s Indiana operations since Oct. 12. He replaces Mike Reed, who has been on administrative leave since Oct. 5 and is no longer with the company.
Esamann will oversee the company’s regulatory, governmental relations, economic development and community affairs work in Indiana.
He joined Public Service Indiana (later called PSI Energy, a predecessor company to Duke Energy) in 1979. From 2001 to 2004, he served as president of PSI Energy. Esamann is a Plainfield, Ind., native and a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington.
“Doug has deep Indiana roots,” said Duke Energy Chief Executive Officer James E. Rogers. “He knows our business and employees well and will provide Indiana with strong leadership.”
Esamann will report to Jim Turner, president and chief operating officer of Duke Energy’s Franchised Electric & Gas businesses.
“Doug started his career 30 years ago with our company,” Turner said. “He brings valuable insights and experience to this job.”
Just prior to becoming interim president, Esamann was senior vice president of corporate strategy and planning at Duke Energy’s corporate headquarters in Charlotte, N.C.
“I'm excited to return to my home state,” Esamann said. “I look forward to working with our 2,500 Indiana-based employees and contractors to provide affordable, reliable and cleaner energy to Hoosiers.”
Esamann, 52, and his wife Kim have three grown children and one grandchild. They will live in Plainfield.
Duke Energy Indiana’s operations provide approximately 6,800 megawatts of electricity capacity to approximately 780,000 customers, making it the state’s largest electric supplier.
