Duke Energy Releases First Sustainability Annual Report April 19, 2007
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -
Duke Energy today announced the release of its first sustainability annual report. Entitled "Our Path Forward," the report presents the company’s sustainability strategy and details its 2006 environmental performance, safety record, community investments and values.
Sustainability is a business philosophy that recognizes that responsible actions lead to long-term success," said Duke Energy Chairman, President and CEO, James E. Rogers. "This is more than good corporate citizenship. Running a sustainable business is about pursuing our vision of tomorrow while serving our stakeholders well today. This report focuses on our past and future efforts to do that."
Duke Energy has adopted the Dow Jones Sustainability Index definition of sustainability: "Corporate sustainability is a business approach that creates long-term shareholder value by embracing opportunities and managing risks deriving from economic, environmental and social developments."
Duke Energy, which merged with Cinergy Corp. in April 2006, had produced an annual environmental, health and safety and community relations report, while Cinergy produced an annual sustainability report.
"This new report adopts the best of both publications, and with Earth Day this weekend, we felt this was an appropriate time to introduce our first sustainability annual report," said Roberta Bowman, vice president, Sustainability and Community Affairs.
The report can be accessed in the Environment & Sustainability area of the company’s Web site at: http://www.duke-energy.com/pdfs/sustainability_report.pdf.
