Algonquin Gas Transmission Offers Opportunity to Move New Supplies to High-Growth Northeast U.S. Markets

Open Season Begins Sept. 29 on “East to West Expansion” Project

BOSTON – Algonquin Gas Transmission, a unit of Duke Energy Gas Transmission, is offering capacity on its system to shippers who want to move new supplies – including LNG-sourced supply – into existing delivery points in high-growth East Coast markets.

Service on the proposed project – called the “East to West Expansion” – could begin as early as Nov. 1, 2008. The project will use existing mainline infrastructure, adding incremental expansion as needed. In developing the project, Algonquin will use existing rights of way to minimize environmental and landowner impacts.

“Algonquin’s strategic proximity to proposed new sources of LNG supply at the eastern end of its system offers shippers a ground-floor opportunity to reach growing Northeast markets,” said Bill Yardley, DEGT’s vice president, marketing, business development and customer service. “Through the use of existing infrastructure, the East to West Expansion will provide an economical option for our Algonquin customers.”

Advantages of the East to West Expansion include:

  • Economical access to high-growth Northeast markets through existing mainline infrastructure
  • Access to new sources of supply
  • Strategic proximity to eastern end supplies
  • Flexible in-service date
  • Use of existing rights of way

A non-binding open season will be held Sept. 29 to Oct. 27. Interested shippers should contact Doreen Wrick, project director, at dfwrick@duke-energy.com or 617-560-1536.
