Duke Energy Announces Conversion Rate Adjustment for 1.75 Percent Convertible Notes

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Duke Energy today announced plans to adjust the conversion rate for the Duke Energy Corporation 1.75 percent Convertible Notes due May 15, 2023 (CUSIP# 264399EJ1).

The new conversion rate will be 42.7435 common shares per $1,000 note effective for conversions on or after May 10, 2006. The current conversion rate is 42.3908 common shares per $1,000 note.

Notices of the conversion rate adjustment will be mailed to security holders in accordance with the terms of the notes.
